Annual Brett Favre Watch – 2010 Edition

The annual ‘will-he-retire-or-will-he-play’ waiting game has begun – this year, with a new twist: a non-debilitating ankle injury that requires surgery to extend his already storied career.

I’m a gigantic Favre fan – I have been since the afternoon in Green Bay that he took over for a broken Don  Majkowski on a September afternoon. Favre won that game, 24-23, and started every game for Green Bay through the 2007 season. He holds about a bazillion NFL records, about 20 MVP awards, has thrown for something like 40 miles and is guaranteed to have the NFL Hall of Fame named after him.

I’m on the fence this year. As a man who’s also in his 40’s, I can’t imagine how he tolerates what happens to his body every Sunday (or Tuesday through Saturday, for that matter). On the other hand, one more Super Bowl victory, one more MVP season, one more…
